How the match engine reads your tactics
Every match in My Football Game is simulated minute by minute, and your tactical setup shapes every event roll: chance creation, defensive stability, cards and momentum. Two identical squads with different tactics can produce very different results.
That means tactics are not decoration - they are the biggest lever you control between matches, and they cost nothing.
Choosing a formation
Formations trade attacking presence for defensive cover. A back four with two holding midfielders is hard to break down but creates less. A front three generates chances but leaves your full-backs exposed on the counter.
The golden rule: field your best players in their natural positions. A great midfielder played as a forward performs like an average forward. Build the formation around the players, never the reverse.
Mentality: when to attack, when to protect
An attacking mentality increases your chance creation but also the quality of chances you concede. Against weaker opponents, attack - you want volume. Against stronger squads, a balanced or defensive setup keeps the scoreline close and lets set pieces or counters decide it.
Check your opponent's record before a challenge and set your mentality accordingly. Managers who never adjust are the easiest to beat.
Set pieces win tight games
Assign your free kick, corner and penalty takers deliberately. In evenly-matched games, one converted set piece is frequently the difference, and the quality of the assigned taker directly affects conversion.
Review your takers whenever your squad changes - it's easy to sell a player and forget he was your penalty taker.
Boosts: the tactical wildcard
Stat boosts from booster packs temporarily raise player attributes. Save them for matches that matter - a rival on the leaderboard, a grudge match against a friend - rather than burning them on routine challenges. A well-timed boost on your striker before a big game is the closest thing to a cheat code the rules allow.
